Door dramas

Work this last couple of days has been mainly concerned with hanging the internal doors. Wonkily, in the wrong places and in the wrong direction.

So the door to the large front bedroom (below left) is hung not-quite-vertically meaning it doesn't close properly. I've no idea if there's a strategy behind this 'cos it's not the kind of daft mistake the builders normally make. The door on the right was added today, replacing one with no glazing provision which was put there yesterday. It's hinged on the same side as the original door, despite the fact that all the doors on the rooms here are changing direction and it's quite plainly on the plans.

The foreman's only just back from holiday but he'll be well sick of us already by 8.15 tomorrow morning.

At the back of the landing there's a new bathroom door on the right and a door to the bedroom in the extension on the left. They're both hung correctly, but we think the bathroom one may be wider than what we'd asked for.

Oddity de jour is that top switch in the triangle formation between the doors. It appeared late last week and I don't know what it's for. I fear it.

Two more doors in the upstairs extension, leading right to the en suite and forwards to the dressing room. The en suite one is also not quite vertical.

So much for the doors. Downstairs in the kitchen, the dampness I wrote about recently was a full-on torrent this morning due to the heavy rain. It can't be good for the wiring.

We mentioned it at the meeting this morning and we were told Something would be Done. It wasn't raining when I got home so I don't know how waterproof it is now. It all still looks pretty damp to me.

Chasing the window people is now a matter of priority. I mentioned a few days ago that one of the patio doors had splintered. Here are those doors from the inside. Run your eye along the top of the doorframe:

See that chink of light on the right-hand side? That's not right, is it?

Anyway, the final schedule of work is due for publication on Monday, ahead of another site meeting early on Tuesday morning. With no sign of the window people, the front door man or the renderer I don't know how accurate they can expect it to be.
