Commissioning Day

When he arrived at noon yesterday, the plumber said it would be roughly a two hour job to commission the new plumbing system and switch on the heating. However, when he started running water through the pipes for the first time, some of it emerged from behind a kitchen cupboard and dripped onto the counter. We had a leak. This meant ripping two new holes in the kitchen ceiling to find the offending section:

The culprit was identified as a small nick in a section of qualpex, which was quickly replaced:

Then, at one minute before 4pm, our radiators became warm. There have been a few teething troubles: first of all the system wouldn't switch off again, but he got that sorted soon after. However, shortly after he left, the upstairs circuit switched off and won't come back on. Thankfully by this time the chill had already been taken out of the house. It's probably just an airlock or something.

So that's the heating more-or-less done, and not before time, except we're still short a radiator in the kitchen:

It's on order, apparently.
